   Franco-Italian family of political figures
   The Mancini family was a Roman family whose most famous members were the nieces of cardinal mazarin, who joined their uncle in France. Laure Mancini (1636-57), born in Rome, married Louis de Vendôme, duke de Mercoeur and brother of François the duke de beaufort. Her sons were the marshal and the grand prior of vendôme. olympe Mancini (1639-1708), born in Rome, was a mistress to louis XIV and married Eugène Maurice de savoie-carignan, count de soissons. she was the mother of Prince Eugene of savoy. compromised in affaire of the poisons, she took refuge in Flanders. Marie Mancini (1640-ca. 1706), born in Rome, was also a mistress of Louis XIV, who wanted to marry her but was opposed by Mazarin. She married Prince Colonna of Rome (1661), then separated from him and fled to France, where Louis XIV put her in a convent. she escaped again and led an adventurous life throughout Europe. Hortense Mancini (1646-99), born in Rome, was considered the most beautiful of the five sisters. she married the duke de La Meilleraye, who took the title duke de Mazarin, then left him to become the mistress of the chevalier de Rohan and settled in London. she was for a time the mistress of King charles II of England, and her salon was a gathering place for such intellectual libertines as charles de saint-évremond. Marie-Anne Mancini (16491714), born in Rome, married Maurice Godefroy de La Tour d'Auvergne, the duke de Bouillon.
